For The Good of the Family

For the Good of the Family by George Douglas Lee, renown local artist and member of the Texas Playwrighting Hall of Fame, premieres in Galveston early next month. The drama in two acts will be performed for the benefit of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Galveston County.

The story begins with a joyful family reunion that suddenly becomes a fraught affair as family members rehash the memories of living with a profoundly disabled sister. As in all great drama, the discord leads to an astonishing revelation.

“We are very fortunate to have the experience and talent of Galveston’s Ruth Ann Ruiz to manage the production and serve as director,” says producer Brenda Lee. With a cast of local talent, Ruth focuses the actors on a family trying to embrace their future, but the tentacles of the past will not let them go.

“My husband George Douglas Lee, prior to his passing in September 2019, was working on producing the play in his hometown,” says Brenda Lee. “Only days before he passed away, Moody Mansion generously gave the green light for the production. Bringing him the news that the play was a ‘go’ was one of the last conversations George had. On behalf of George and his family, we are delighted the production is going forward and benefiting such a worthy cause.”

For the Good of the Family will be presented at 7pm on Friday March 6, Saturday March 7, and Saturday March 14 at Moody Mansion, 2618 Broadway. Tickets are available for General Admission as well as a Director/Actor Talk Back (sold separately). Seating is limited. Visit or call 409.996.5040 for tickets and more information.
